Anupa is a versatile writer who contributes to a variety of platforms. She began her writing career as a mainstream journalist. In the mid 1990s she branched off into arts coverage and has been associated with the arts pages of several newspapers. She was founding editor, Art India, Mumbai, and contributing editor of Asian Art News and World Sculpture News. She was managing editor of Harmony magazine and has been a columnist with Indian Express, Bombay Times, Ahmedabad Times and DNA, Ahmedabad.
She has written catalog essays for leading Indian contemporary artists and edited books on contemporary Indian art for other authors.). INDIA 20, a book of interviews with twenty important Indian artists was published by Mapin in October 2007. In June 2007, Anupa published her first novel, The Waiting Room (Penguin). Unseasonal Rain, a collection of short stories, was released by Estrade LLP in November 2014, and the second edition was released in 2019.
